In Sep, 1939 the passenger ship Andania of the Cunard White Star Ltd, Liverpool was requisitioned by the Admiralty and converted to an armed merchant cruiser.

16.06.1940: Andania was torpedoed and sunk off Iceland by German submarine UA, she remained afloat long enough for all aboard to be rescued. (62.36n 15.09w)
