Army Air Force Units

Army Airways Communications System:

The Army Airways Communications System (AACS) was first organized on 15 November 1938, in the Directorate of Communications of the U.S. Army Air Corps. On 13 April 1943, the official lineage of the AACS as a separate unit began with the constitution of the AACS Wing. The AACS Wing was activated as part of the Flight Control Command on 26 April 1943.

On 14 July 1943, the AACS Wing was reassigned directly to the Army Air Forces. It was redesignated the AACS on 26 April 1944, with major command status. On 13 March 1946, the AACS was redesignated the Air Communications Service (ACS) and reassigned to the Air Transport Command. The ACS was redesignated the Airways and Air Communications Service (AACS) on 11 September 1946
